Personal photography project for 2025 | Taking a photo a day
London & Hertfordshire photographer
January is done! Feels very satisfying to have completed a full month of taking and sharing a photo a day. Only 11 more months to go.
On a scale of 0-10 (with 0 being "easy" and 10 being "very challenging"):
January's difficulty rating: 3/10
Reflections:
- Excitement of a new challenge has kept me motivated.
- I've used up a lot of the "quick wins" photos, so I'll need to be more intentional going forward.
- January is not in busy season, so I've had the flexibility to create a photo where one hasn't naturally presented itself.
- This month has been a great warm-up, helping me get into a rhythm for daily shooting & editing, and figuring out my workflow etc.
- There's been a mix of planned and spontaneous shots—finding a balance between the two will be key in the coming months, as well as finding new sources of inspiration.
- 90% of photos in January were taken with my Canon R6. I wonder how that will change as I get further into the challenge.
Bring on February!

Celebrating completing February's photo a day with a self portrait!

When the light shines through and you get the shot. A cloud passes over and the moment has gone.

Some days the photo of the day will just be a documentation of what happened that day. Today I want to remember how I felt when I heard the incredibly talented Hannah MacGregor speak at Nine Dots Motion Event on Hybrid shooting (recording video and capturing photos at the same time).

A messy child is a happy child.
Cannot quite believe how fast this sunflower is growing.

Saw this reflection whilst I was driving. Pulled over to take the photo.

These are the seeds we planted on Monday. This half term has been full on, but so lovely catching up with family in friends. I need a break now, and time to repot and thin out these sunflowers! Love how this looks like they are chatting to each other.

Photographed the Galentine's Afternoon Tea at Marley's Bakery in High Barnet today.

Booked a court and played badminton with the fam today.

Quick morning walk before another half term play date.

It's half term, and today we are visiting family followed by a playdate/sleepover for the girls, and my son is going to watch Barnet FC at the Hive.

Having a rare afternoon together with just the littlest whilst the older two are out. Bonus film plus photo of the day today!

The football cards have "exploded" apparently.

Today, I did something so far out of my comfort zone. I took part in the women's squash tournament 2025. I was so nervous playing my first 2 matches, but once the nerves settled I enjoyed my 3rd and 4th games. It was such a brilliant atmosphere and I loved spending the day watching all the incredible squash at all the levels. So inspiring.

If you are from North London, this building needs no introduction!
Back in Muswell Hill for the morning - made a detour via Alexandra Palace (a stone's throw away from the road I grew up on). Some things change, some things don't!

As a plant mum it pains me to admit that I can't keep my bonsai happy. Is he too high maintenance for me?

Playing around with lighting today. (Scroll down for a behind the scenes, and reveal of the light source).
Some pottery me and my eldest made at a Taster Class at SkandiHus, Camden Art Centre.

When life gives you lemons, make Lemonade. When February gives you miserable weather, make your own fun.

Nothing quite matches the buzz of the West End in London. We went to see Matilda today. HIGHLY recommend, it was absolutely brilliant.

The story lies in the detail.

Still in the depths of winter (it hailed today), but there's still signs of life and hints of spring.

I had a lovely walk with a photography friend today in Oakwood Park. I lugged around my tripod and 85mm to take a self portrait for my photo of the day after our walk. It was so cold, I just about managed to set up my tripod, take one photo before deciding to call it a day!

I was preparing my caption to go along with my photo for today. I was using a creative technique (freelensing) which contributes to the beautiful softness of the image, so I thought a poetic caption along the lines of "Even though it's out of focus, its form is still recognisable" would go nicely.
Then my 6 year old comes into my office, looks at my screen and says "What's that a photo of?". It's a tough crowd!

Today was filled with meetings for exciting jobs I have coming up! One was over zoom, one was in a local cafe and one was at my friend's house, with the cutest bunnies for company.

34/365 | Monday 3rd February 2025
Evening supermarket shopping trip with the littlest, whilst we wait for her older brother and sister to finish their after school activities.

33/365 | Sunday 2nd February 2025
Sunday Morning Sunrise.
When I saw the sun shine through the window this morning, I knew the park was going to look glorious. I've never jumped out of bed quicker. That's the thing with gorgeous light, you only have a tiny window to capture the vision. Once it's gone, you don't get that moment back! Grateful to have some company this morning.
Shutter count:
Me: 195 shots
Husband: 45 shots
