Why It Doesn’t Matter If I’ve Never Shot at Your Wedding Venue Before

One of the questions I’m sometimes asked is, “Have you shot at our venue before?”
Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it’s somewhere new, and I am genuinely excited to photograph a new space.
Here’s why it doesn’t matter if I haven’t shot there before.

1. It's all about connection
Whilst your venue sets the stage, your wedding photos are about you and the people around you. Every wedding is different, and it’s your connection, your emotions and your story that sit at the heart of what I photograph.
My focus is always on capturing the genuine moments that make your day truly yours.
2. It’s all in the preparation
Even if I haven’t photographed your venue before, I always come prepared. If I haven’t been able to visit ahead of time, I will arrive early on the day to look around and understand the space.
I research the venue, look through images, and consider how the light will fall throughout the day. Knowing where the sun will be, and how your timeline flows means I am never walking in without a plan.
3. Collaboration on the day
Wedding photography is always a team effort. I connect with your planner, venue coordinator and other suppliers to understand the flow of the day and how best to use the space.
This helps everything run smoothly and ensures your photographs fit naturally within the rhythm of your day.
4. Experience counts
Over the years, I have photographed weddings in grand historic buildings, London town halls, intimate garden ceremonies, restaurants and family homes. Every space is different, and part of my job is adapting quickly to whatever I am working with.
Good light, thoughtful composition and attention to detail matter far more than having photographed a venue before.
5. Fresh eyes bring creativity
There is something special about seeing a venue for the first time. I approach it with curiosity, noticing pockets of light, interesting textures and unexpected backdrops.
Sometimes not having photographed somewhere before means I see opportunities that others might overlook.
6. A documentary approach
Weddings rarely run exactly to plan. Timelines shift, the weather changes and things run late. My documentary approach means I stay observant and flexible, responding to what is happening on the day rather than forcing a particular scene at that venue.
Ultimately, whilst your venue provides the backdrop, it is not what makes your photographs meaningful. It is about you, your love and the moments that make your wedding day unique.
