10 moments of 2024.

At the start of 2024, I looked back at 10 shoots from the previous year, and it was such a joy to reflect on how my work has evolved. It’s something I’d love to make a yearly tradition, so here’s my roundup of 2024:

1. Mallorca Wedding

Larissa & Wouter's chilled summer wedding at finca morneta

Photographing a wedding in Mallorca was something I never imagined when I first started my business. Larissa and Wouter’s day was truly magical, and it was even more special because my whole family flew out too—we turned it into a two-week holiday and made unforgettable memories together.

2. Photographer's retreat

FOlkestone

Three days away from family life in Barnet to immerse myself in a photography retreat in Folkestone—styled shoots, inspiring speakers, cold sea swims, and the space to connect and have deep chats with new friends. It was exactly what I needed.

3. Extended Family shoot

This is the third time I’ve photographed Davina and her family. The first was just her and her son when he was in pre-school, then with her husband and daughter too, and now in 2024, with her extended family—including her brother and parents. It’s such an honour to be asked back to document these moments. 2024 has definitely been the year for extended family shoots, with sessions in Hampstead Heath, Oak Hill Park, and Forty Hall.

4. Videography

Getting into videography has totally changed the way I see the world. I’ve always loved filming little home videos, but now I also get to help my clients bring their brands to life with dynamic, moving content. This was my first ‘sit-down’ video for Prospr, and I really enjoyed the whole process—especially getting to grips with the technical side of sound, which was all new to me. Learning and trying new things is such a big part of running my own business, and I love that I can use these skills to support other local businesses in Barnet.

5. Experimentation

For this winter wedding, with the sun setting at 3pm and Storm Darragh rolling in, I made the creative decision to use flash photography for the whole wedding. I couldn’t be happier with the results.

6. Community - photographers

being part of creative communities

One of the biggest things that has helped me as a self-employed photographer is building a community around me. When you work for a company, you take the support of colleagues for granted – something I never truly appreciated until going solo. This year, I’ve built a wonderful network of local photographers. We meet up at least once a month to catch up, get creative, and even practice being in front of the camera. It’s been invaluable for navigating self-employment while keeping the creativity and passion for photography alive, even during the busiest seasons.

7. Community - local small businesses in Barnet

Alongside building my network of local photographers, I’ve also connected with other small businesses in Barnet. It’s wonderful to meet like-minded people who are also local, and there’s a real sense of community whenever we get together.

8. Seasonal family shoots

including spring blossom shoots and christmas shoots

I offer family shoots all year round, however the seasonal ones are a joy – capturing the changing landscapes, the shifting light, and the unique vibes that each season brings.

9. Repeat customers

building relationships with clients over time

Now that my business has been running for a few years, it’s such an honour to have repeat clients. Getting to know them over time and being trusted to document their stories again and again is truly special.

10. Travel

As the amount of clients I shoot increases, the amount of personal photos that I take goes down. (I am trying to make amends to this in 2025 - see project 365). However holidays and travel are always a time when I try to reset and get my creative fix. This year in particular I loved photographing our adventures with my underwater camera.

I am so grateful for all my clients and opportunities in 2024, and I hope that in 2025 I'll have just as much variety to explore my creativity, and tell more people's stories with natural and candid photography. If you would like to have your photo taken in 2025, I'd love to hear from you.
