Personal photography project for 2025 | Taking a photo a day
London & Hertfordshire photographer
One thing I’ve noticed since I became a professional photographer is how few personal photos that I’ve taken. Not altogether that surprising when I’ve been putting all my energy into the business, the house & my family.
So in 2025 I have decided…. 🥁….to take on project 365, the challenge of taking a photo a day for a year.
I am going to share my reasons for doing it so that I can come back to this post when I invariably start struggling to remember why I took on this challenge in the first place!
My reasons for doing photo365:
- Perfecting the art of being consistent and embracing a “done is better than perfect” mindset. Both of which I need to work on, and so necessary in running your own business.
- Documenting everyday life and finding the beauty in the everyday. When I think back to my childhood, I don’t just remember the wonderful holidays and day trips, birthdays etc, I also want to remember my old house, bedroom, my favourite place to sit, the cupboard I used to hide in.
- Pushing myself creatively and to find the best/most interesting photo in a scene. Discovering what things I’m drawn to photographing everyday, spotting any themes.
The last time I did something like this was in 2015, when I took a photo a day for 50 days. Feels like the perfect time to take on the challenge again, 10 years on!!

Connection
Today I photographed an aptly named Local Networking meet up called "Coffee Connexions Barnet". So lovely getting to know local small business owners.
Shout out to Aimad of Ben Accounting (in the centre of this photo). As an accountant myself, you have an automatic bond with other accountants, but you can also just tell from his smile that he's the warmest, friendliest, happiest accountant you will ever meet!

Creative Chaos.
Being self employed can be a lonely gig at times, so this morning I hosted a co-working, catch up with fellow local photographers. The sun was shining and it felt very much like Spring is on the way.

Red for Chinese New Year.

28/365
Tomorrow is Chinese New Year. So one of today's jobs is to tidy the house!

Today I met Anisha from Initialled, for the second time. Couldn't resist buying some of her pieces, hand stamped with my children's initials.

Not growing up in a sporty household we didn't do tennis (or sports) on consecutive days!

25/365
I wouldn't have taken my camera down to the tennis club if it wasn't for project365. I'm so glad I did. I only took photos for about 5 mins, but such a great vibe at the tennis club this morning. I may have to consider a self inflicted shadow ban (!) on myself for February. I just love a shadow.

What can I say? I love plants and I love shadows.

Photo of the day done totally on the go. Mobile phone plus lightroom for mobile. The best camera is the one you have on you. But how I wish I had my proper camera with me!

As a family of 5, we have enough clothes for a "red wash" once a week.

Blue Monday. Bit of a samey one, but when you have a spot in your house that works, use it! Would like to push myself to take something a bit more interesting in this spot, but played around with the edit instead. It's much cooler than I'm used to, but kinda works for a more cinematic feel. Also I've finished my photo for today, by 9.30am!

Beautiful colours in the sky tonight.

Life is short, take the photo.

Memories of the current setup and current things we have, including a £5 mug I bought for work from Canary Wharf Waitrose when I used to work in the city.

A simple photo for today, but excellent memories. Went to a Photography Trade Show in Hammersmith today, excellent car chats with my new photographer friends, great haul (rom com books about a wedding photographer) - cannot wait to get stuck in!), and 4 freebie tote bags. What more could you ask for?!

Saw all these birds flying around in the park, so we went to take a closer look.

All about the details.

The last of the frost, maybe. I adore these colours, and the added texture of the frost.

Frosty park run. Gorgeous start to the weekend.

Really liking the curvy shapes in the ice. Reminds me of those drawings with one continuous line.

Fired up with my morning coffee. Time to face the day.

Dancing on ice.

Fresh year, fresh coat of paint. Another day, another photo including a shadow!

T'was the Sunday before the schools went back after the Christmas holidays. My littlest elf helping bring all the Christmas things back up to the loft.

Last day before we de-christmassify the house. The tree in all its glory.

Ice spike (finally not cleaning up the garden has paid off! The kids left the little tupperware outside on the garden table, and in the morning mother nature left us this gift)

Show me the light. Taken at The Young V&A.

New year's Day park run. Definitely testing my done is better than perfect mindset. Tried not to dwell on it too much. Rather uninspiring bleak photo to kick off this project!
