Behind the scenes of an outdoor family shoot in North London

natural and candid family photography for fun, adventurous families

Capturing a moment in time

I love being outside, and outdoor family shoots are one of my favourites. We will go to a location of your choice and we have fun! Don't worry if no place comes to mind though, I can recommend some options, especially in Barnet, but I have also done family shoots across North London and Central London too!

On a family shoot I'm looking to capture the natural interactions between family members and highlight the individual personalities that come together to make your family so special. That happens when you and and your family are in a place you love, just being together. I hope when you look back at the photos, it will take you back to that moment, how you felt, and you'll forget the camera was even there!

A family shoot is about capturing a moment in time and the small little details that will create beautiful memories. So if your child has a favourite toy, bring it. If the children have a favourite outfit they insist on wearing, let them wear it (even if you think it looks ridiculous!). If you're having a bad hair day, don't worry about it. It's all part of that moment.

Playing and getting to know each other

The best shots happen when you feel completely comfortable. I like to spend the first part of the shoot playing with the kids and the families, getting to know you all, especially those who are meeting me for the first time in person and maybe aren't used to a "big camera"! We jump in puddles, run around, play hide and seek, tell jokes. The whole time I'll also be taking it all in, assessing the light and looking for the best compositions and backgrounds that will make the best photo for you.

Later on in the shoot, to continue to keep the children (and grown ups!) engaged, I might take out food to feed the ducks, or some bubbles too.

Drinks & Snacks

No family outing is complete without a pit stop for a snack, and a family shoot isn't any different! So don't worry if you or your little ones need to refuel, it's all part of the fun. We go at your pace and make sure that everyone is happy.

My style is largely lifestyle photography and candid - so that means I will capture the spirit of you as a family playing, chatting, walking. I tend to avoid overly 'posed' photos, although I will provide the occasional prompt when I see an opportunity to take a great shot. You don't need to worry about looking at the camera - just have fun with your family and I'll do the rest.
