What is a branding shoot, and should I have one?

There are many new businesses popping up, which is so exciting to see, but it’s also even more important, as a small business owner, to be unique so you can stand out and attract your ideal clients.
Photography is one way you can bring your brand to life. Before any shoot, I make time to get to know you and your business, so that I can make sure that your personality and voice comes across in all the photos.
“I am so pleased with my photos! Jane took the time to listen and understand exactly what I wanted for my small business. I love the new look my website has now. Thank you so much”
There are so many things to think about when running your own business, so I thought I’d share 5 reasons why you might want to outsource your photography to a local branding photographer, and have a branding shoot.

But first,
What is a branding shoot?
A branding shoot is a photoshoot that’s all about showing off you and your business in the best light (pun intended!). It’s not just about headshots (though we can do them too!)—it’s about creating a collection of images that tell your story and match your vibe. Whether it’s for your website, social media, or marketing materials, these photos help bring your brand to life and show the world what you’re all about.
Here’s a branding shoot I did with Ruth's Sewing Studio, if you want to have a look and get a feel for what it’s like on a branding shoot with me.
“Lots of laughs and lots of great shots secured which we will treasure forever. Thanks Jane!”

5 reasons why a branding shoot can be good for your business:
1. Having a branding shoot shows off what makes you unique and helps you connect with your customers.
When you have a small business, what really sets you apart is you. That’s why it’s so important to be visible in your business and allow people to connect with the person behind the brand and get a peek behind the scenes of your business. When customers see the heart and soul that goes into your work, it all contributes to telling your story in a way that connects with them on a deeper level, and in turn builds their trust in you.

2. Having a branding shoot can save time and money.
I know from personal experience how hard it is to get a photo of myself (I’ve been there, camera on a tripod, timer, selfie, phone camera balancing on a pile of books). It’s even harder to get behind the scenes in action, which customers love to see. But you don’t have to spend your valuable time or money buying a better camera, setting up tripods etc filming yourself etc, if you invest in a branding shoot with a photographer who already has all the gear, and experience to bring out your best side and tell your story.
By freeing up this time, you can then spend it on what really matters in your business, be that marketing, designing new products etc.
3. Having a branding shoot elevates your brand.
Many small businesses that I work with rely on photos taken on their phones for their website and social media. This is definitely better than nothing, but having professional photos of you and your products is one way of creating a strong first impression and enhances your brand credibility. Beautiful photos are aspirational and draw your customers in, encouraging them to learn more about you and what you offer.

4. Having a branding shoot helps with the consistency of showing up online and being visible.
Nearly every single marketing expert will tell you that the key to growing your business is consistency. With a bank of photos that can be used for months, you save time that would have been spent thinking of and creating posts to share on social media. This lets you focus on sharing and connecting with your audience rather than deliberating over content.
“Jane definitely has a creative eye! I use the images all the time - I love them.”
5. To freshen up/reinvigorate your business.
Getting professional photos for your brand isn't just about enhancing your imagery; it's like giving your business a spring refresh! It's an opportunity to reconnect with your reasons for starting your business, reflect on your journey, and deepen your connection with customers. Plus, it's a chance to work with someone (your photographer), bounce ideas off each other and get those creative juices flowing and brainstorm new ways to present yourself and your business.
