Newborn photoshoot at home

There's nothing like being in that newborn bubble; being deliriously in love, and sleep deprived in equal measures. That's what makes it even more of an honour, as a photographer, to be invited into someone's home, to photograph their family in the first few days of the baby's life.

This newborn shoot of 7-day old Tadhg, was taken at their home in Hitchin. The family is moving to a new house in the coming months, so capturing these photos now becomes even more special.

All the details

Babies grow up so quickly, and within a few weeks already look so different. A newborn shoot allows you to freeze those precious moments and capture the unique details that make that the newborn stage so precious. From their tiny feet to the adorable yawns, these fleeting moments will become treasured memories that you can revisit time and time again.

Capturing those in-between moments

I have children myself so know what it’s like, and it's important to me to make sure the shoot itself is very relaxed. I like to make sure everyone is settled, happy and not feeling rushed, so newborn sessions will typically last between 90 mins to 2 hours. If you need to feed the baby or change the baby that’s absolutely fine - we go at your pace.

When I describe my photography as candid, this means capturing those in-between moments (always with the parents' permission of course). Whether it's feeding or changing time, it's these everyday moments that we often overlook when it comes to taking photographs. However, there is so much beauty and tenderness to be found in these ordinary yet significant moments. When we look back on the photos, it's these moments that transport us back to not just how that moment looked, but how it felt.

Pets

Fur babies are such a big part of the family, and also need to adjust to their new role as big brother/sister! I love including pets in family portraits, showing off their expressions, and quirks that make them such an integral part of the family story.

Sharing the news with family and friends

After the session, I’ll send you a link to a secure private online gallery to view the photos that I have selected and edited for you, which you are free to download and share as you wish. Just to give you an idea, I say you will receive a minimum of 25 photos, but it’s likely much more than that, mostly because I can’t resist photographing all the little details of a newborn!

You can use the photos to announce the birth of your baby to the world, share the photos with family and friends, but more importantly have a gorgeous gallery of images that you can look back on for years to come, and reminisce about all those details that you might have been too sleep deprived to treasure at the time.

If you are pregnant and love the idea of a newborn shoot, please get in touch. The best time to photograph a newborn is around 5 to 12 days old, but I am completely flexible, and given it’s all a bit unpredictable with a newborn, you can let me know when the baby is born and I can work around when suits you and your new expanded family best.

If you've just had a baby, huge congratulations! I would love to hear from you to photograph this exciting new chapter in your lives.
